Tryon International Equestrian Center and Upstairs ArtSpace have partnered to offer space, the opportunity to sell and market work, and access to grant funding to local artists impacted by Hurricane Helene. We are proud to present Tryon Upstairs Artspace Studios.

Upstairs Artspace (UA) is non-profit, 501(c)3 contemporary art gallery in downtown Tryon, North Carolina whose mission is to connect art and community through exhibitions and educational programs and to create a vibrant space for artistic expression and appreciation. Established over 45 years ago, UA shows two and three-dimensional work from throughout the southeast. UA is committed to supporting regional artists and the foothills community through its exhibitions, programs and outreach.

Who is eligible?

Visual artists in Western North Carolina whose studios and workshops were impacted or demolished by Hurricane Helene. To ensure that space and grant funds are being allocated as intended, interested artists will be vetted before space and/or funds are assigned.

What’s being offered?

Physical Space: Artists are invited to set up studio space at in the International Pavilion of Tryon International. Studio space size will be approximately 10’x12’ and can be modified based on needs. Studios will be considered open studios, allowing the public to view artists at work, as well as the work they produce. Studio spaces will be open to artists 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 

Opportunities to Sell Work: Artists may sell work out of their studio space at Tryon International. Artists may set up electronic payment options to allow the public to purchase work, allowing artists to keep 100% of the sales price. The opportunity to sell work will extend to any impacted WNC artist regardless of whether or not they choose to establish a studio space at TIEC.

Grant Funding: Artists with studios at Tryon International are eligible to apply for mini-grants to offset costs of new art supplies and equipment; temporary lodging associated with residency at Tryon International; and transportation to and from Tryon International residency. A short application and original receipts and/or quotes will be required to receive grant funding.

Marketing & Support: Tryon International and UA will both work to promote the Tryon Upstairs Artspace Studios project and the associated artists. Additionally, members of both organizations will gladly work to connect artists to local resources.

Show Opportunities: Both Tryon International and UA are exploring opportunities to show the work of artists participating in the Tryon Upstairs Artspace Studios project. More information to follow!
